Northern Indigenous Lodge Network

Northern Indigenous Lodge Network

Investment overview

The Northern Indigenous Lodge Network is a proposed portfolio of Indigenous-owned, full-service destination lodges across Northern British Columbia, Yukon and the Northwest Territories, developed as part of Destination Canada’s Tourism Corridor Strategy Program. The initiative brings together First Nations governments, economic development corporations, and key partners seeking investment to support the enhancement of existing accommodation properties or the development of new destination lodges.

The Network offers participating entities shared expertise, guidance and operational support throughout the acquisition, development and operation of each property. This collaborative model is intended to strengthen individual projects, build community capacity and support the long-term success of the lodges and their host communities.

Each lodge will offer distinctive, community-led accommodations alongside authentic host-community cultural experiences, Indigenous culinary offerings, outdoor activities and access to remote northern landscapes. Together, the properties form a connected route, inviting guests to travel from community to community while experiencing the distinct cultures, stories and landscapes of the North.

The Network is intended to address a shortage of high-quality accommodations outside major northern centers while responding to growing demand for Indigenous tourism experiences.

The proposed model combines accommodations with shared network components such as a single reservation system, procurement, visitor-experience development, staff training, marketing and transportation coordination. This structure is intended to reduce operating costs, improve market access and create a consistent and recognizable brand and standard of service, while allowing each lodge to retain its distinct cultural and community identity.

  • Full-service stays combining accommodation, dining, transportation and guided experiences
  • Community-led cultural experiences rooted in local traditions, stories and knowledge
  • Access to distinctive northern landscapes and outdoor activities
  • Indigenous ownership, local employment and supplier-development opportunities
